Peace and Joy to Our World

a holiday retreat in the spirit of mindfulness
December 27th – 30th, 2006
Offered by Monks and Nuns from Green Mountain Dharma Center and Maple Forest Monastery
in the tradition of our teacher Thich Nhat Hanh
For the 6th year, the monks and nuns of Green Mountain Dharma Center and Maple Forest Monastery, in the tradition of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, are offering a holiday retreat for those who, like nature itself, want to enjoy a quite renewal and a deepened sense of purpose in the winter season. The theme of this year’s retreat is Peace and Joy to Our World.
The holiday season is traditionally a time to take a break from our busy schedules to return home and appreciate the preciousness of being with family and friends. This retreat is an opportunity to come home, in the deepest sense, to the source of peace and hope within us, through the practice of mindfulness. Mindfulness is the energy that allows us to be truly in touch with the present moment. We will practice mindful breathing, walking, eating and speaking, in a spirit of togetherness, to grow our peace, calm and joy. We will look into the situation of our society today and learn to respond with understanding and compassion. Listening, walking and sitting beside the beautiful lake and mountains in mindfulness, we can refresh our hearts and touch the wonders of life deeply.
Families are especially welcome. There will be separate programs for children (age 6 to 12) and teenagers, where they will have the opportunity to learn the practice of mindfulness and also have a lot of fun! Children’s activities include ice-skating, indoor swimming, arts and crafts, and singing. This is a great opportunity to enjoy spending time with your family in a wholesome environment.
